The Pride of Yorkshire Dales Complete The focus of this wonderful Yorkshire Dales walking holiday is to really get to know this beautiful part of England. So, rather than walk progressively across the landscape, we concentrate on three different parts of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and explore each of them more fully. Each of the Dales has its own character and varied scenery and yet they blend together to provide some of the most breathtaking walking to be found anywhere in the UK.
We start our ‘Yorkshire Dales Experience’ in the southeastern village of Grassington and spend several days walking in some of the prettiest parts of the Southern Dales including Whafedale and Nidderdale, each with its own distinctive beauty and charm. We then move to north to Asysgarth for some wonderful walking in and around Wensleydale and Swaledale before finally moving down to the southwest market town of Settle to explore Ribblesdale and Malhamdale. We spend approximately three days in each location and each day offer short walks in the local area. These walks are chosen to provide an opportunity to experience the exhilaration that comes from walking in this glorious National Park as we follow ancient pathways which twist and turn over spectacular limestone scenery and through countryside rich in flora and luxuriant sheep pastures.
Again responding to requests from our clients we have planned each day on this holiday to allow plenty of time to enjoy activities other than walking. For example we plan our itinerary to coincide with one of the famous Yorkshire market days where you can enjoy local produce and crafts. Each of the villages we stay in has been carefully selected to provide the maximum range of ‘other’ opportunities and the widest variety of sights, history and landscape. They are built in the most beautiful unspoilt stone villages that live in perfect harmony with the landscape and appear to have grown where they stand. There is a wonderland of stone barns and endless drystone walls meandering over the moorland, climbing way into the distance over the mountain tops.
Village greens, market squares and exceptional scenery blend together perfectly with a fascinating history and culture. Each Dale presents a wonderful variety of places to discover. We cross the historic Corpse Way complete with stone resting slabs. We have planned days where you have plenty of time to explore the villages or just relax and watch the world go by. James Herriot settled in North Yorkshire at the start of his veterinary career and became world famous through the TV series "All Creatures Great and Small". We walk through Herriot's "Darrowby" and later pass the hotel in which he and his wife spent their honeymoon in the 1940's.
All offer access to the local bus and/or trains which provide further opportunities for exploration. There is ample time to marvel at the limestone crags, beautiful rivers, mountain streams, ancient castles and historic abbeys. Altogether a truly wonderful ‘Dales Experience’! As with all our walks accommodation is always in short supply and, given our policy of limiting group size to a maximum of twelve, early booking is strongly recommended.
