Guided Walks in the Glorious English Countryside . . . Carrying only your Day Pack Hello and welcome to Walk UK. We have a passion for walking and love to share this wonderful pastime with fellow Australians and walkers from around the world, roaming the beautiful and richly historic countryside of the United Kingdom. Pub walks are extremely popular in England but not at all the pub crawl you might imagine. Whilst the ‘soft adventure’ of a walking holiday has reached enormous popularity and bush walking is well known to Australians, the delights of going on a pub walk are a new experience to most walkers.
The idea of the typical ‘English Pub’ is well known and has long featured in literature, television and film. The welcoming fire, the jovial host, the local character in their ‘usual’ spot at the bar, the cosy atmosphere all combine to create an idyllic image. It is these wonderful pubs that provide the accommodation links in our walking chain.
Each day we leave our overnight accommodation having enjoyed a full English Breakfast and make our way into the countryside for a wonderful days walking across meadow, field, along river banks, up hill and down dale to arrive at yet another picture perfect village with another great pub in which to spend the evening. Real ales, interesting wines, good food and cosy en-suite rooms await us. This is clearly a Pub Walk and not a Pub Crawl!
As countless travellers have found the best way to enjoy this unique countryside is to explore it on foot within the security and companionship of a small guided group carrying only your daypack. The Monks, Romans and Celts walked these pathways a long time before us and many of the footpaths, bridleways and droving tracks they created still remain for us to tread and enjoy, so too the ancient Inns where Monks originally brewed ale for thirsty travellers and pilgrims alike.
These traditional Coaching Inns have old established reputations and are well accustomed to walkers. Having catered for the needs of wayfarers for hundreds of years they will endeavour to make your stay an enjoyable and memorable experience.
Village folk are warm hearted and epitomise the style so well known in T.V. series such as "All Creatures Great and Small", “Heartbeat”, “Doc Martin” and even “Midsomer Murders” (although we hope we leave with the same number we arrived with!!). What better after enjoying the fresh mountain air than the warm hospitality of a pleasant country Inn? Not every Inn has four poster beds but all have character. From the stone flagged floors and period furniture to the Inglenook fireplace and oak beamed ceiling they ooze charm. These friendly hostelries often overlook the market square or village green complete with stocks and whipping post. The village cross and ancient church give contrast and peace of mind ideal for that after dinner stroll in England’s long summer evenings.
No, not at all the pub crawl you may imagine. Our hope is that on this web site we have supplied sufficient information to enable you to book a Walk UK fully escorted tour.
