Guided Walks in the Glorious English Countryside . . . Carrying only your Day Pack
Hello and welcome to Walk UK. We have a passion for walking and love to share this wonderful pastime with fellow Australians, roaming England’s beautiful and richly historic countryside.
Pub walks are extremely popular in England but not at all the pub crawl you might imagine. Whilst for Australians the soft adventure of a walking holiday has reached enormous popularity, the craze of the English pub walk has only just begun.
The Northern county of Yorkshire covers more than 10% of England. Here deep in the Pennines the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Cumbrian Lake District offer some of the finest scenery you can find. Whereas further South in the Cotswolds the thatch roof cottages of the delightful villages complement the stunning scenery in this ‘The Heart of England’.
As countless travellers have found the best way to enjoy this unique countryside is to explore it on foot with the security and companionship of a small guided group carrying only your daypack. The Monks, Romans and Celts walked these pathways a long time before us and many of the medieval paths still remain for us to tread and enjoy. So also do the ancient Inns where Monks originally brewed ale for thirsty travellers and pilgrims alike.
These traditional Coaching Inns have old established reputations and are well accustomed to walkers. Having catered for the needs of wayfarers for hundreds of years they will endeavour to make your stay an enjoyable and memorable experience.
Village folk are warm hearted and epitomise the style so well known in Herriot’s books and his T.V. series "All Creatures Great and Small". What better after enjoying the fresh mountain air than the warm hospitality of a pleasant country Inn.
Some of the Inns have four poster beds but all have character. From the stone flagged floors and period furniture to the Inglenook fireplace and oak beamed ceiling they ooze charm. These friendly hostelries mainly overlook the market square or village green complete with stocks and whipping post. The village cross and ancient church give contrast and peace of mind ideal for that after dinner stroll in England’s late daylight hours.
No, not at all the pub crawl you may imagine.
